St. Mawes Castle (The French prison)

St. Mawes Castle, located just across the bay from Falmouth, was used as the setting for a French prison

in the second series. Dr. Dwight Enys was imprisoned there, before being rescued by Ross Poldark.

That's me (Steve) standing close by admiring the view.

Hotels of the Cast and Crew

In the first series one of the hotels the cast stayed at was the St. Moritz ,

located in Trebetherick. This was convenient for scenes filmed in and around Port

Quin, such as the wrecking scene.

The Carbis Bay Hotel was also used while filming the first series.

It is located in the bay next to St. Ives. It was their base while filming location scenes.

The Restormel Lodge Hotel ( known as the Carotel Motel during the time Poldark was being filmed ) is where the cast and crew stayed for six weeks while filming in and around Lostwithiel for the second series.

This is also where Ingrid and I stayed during our vacation in Cornwall. We highly recommend the Restormel to anyone visiting Cornwall. The price is right and the food was fantastic.

A special thanks to David, the driver / navigator / bartender extraordinaire, for showing us all around Cornwall.

David's lightning fast taxi.
